About BFIHA

The Burnaby Female Ice Hockey Association (BFIHA) is all about supporting and growing female hockey players and leaders.

Burnaby Female Ice Hockey Association

BFIHA is Burnaby’s first dedicated female ice hockey association, proudly continuing a strong, established program that originated under BMHA. Now operating independently, we’re focused on growing the female game in our community. With at least two teams at every age group and both house and rep streams available, we offer a welcoming and competitive environment for players of all skill levels.

OUR STORYAt the Burnaby Female Ice Hockey Association (BFIHA), we believe that every girl who wants to learn and play hockey should have the opportunity to do so—no matter her experience or skill level.

Wildcats Logo

Our journey began in 2002, when the Burnaby Wildcats program was created within the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association (BMHA). For over 20 years, the Wildcats gave girls in Burnaby the chance to compete, grow, and build lifelong friendships. Today, that same spirit lives on through BFIHA—an association built exclusively for female players.

As a non-profit organization led by a volunteer board, BFIHA is dedicated to helping players develop their skills, build confidence, and compete at a level that matches their goals.
With access to ice time, financial support, and a passionate team of volunteers, we’re creating a space where female athletes can thrive—on and off the ice—as confident, respectful individuals.

Burnaby Female Ice Hockey Association

Our mission is to grow female hockey in Burnaby by offering inclusive, developmental, and competitive programs in a positive and supportive environment.

Player Development

We’re committed to helping every player reach her full athletic potential in a fun, challenging, and encouraging atmosphere. Through hockey, we help our athletes learn teamwork, discipline, and leadership—skills that last a lifetime.

Coaching Development

Our coaches are the heart of our programs. We support their growth through ongoing training, resources, and mentorship so they can provide the best experience possible for our players—on the ice and beyond.

Community Involvement

We believe hockey is a team sport in every sense—including parents and guardians. We encourage families to get involved as volunteers and supporters, helping to shape the positive energy that makes our programs stronger and more enjoyable for everyone.

Our Guiding Principles

As an organization rooted in the shared values of Burnaby Minor Hockey, we carry forward these core principles:

  • Promote and encourage good citizenship and sportsmanship among players, coaches, and members
  • Provide opportunities for girls to learn, enjoy, and participate in amateur hockey
  • Grow public interest and awareness to increase participation in female hockey
  • Support and supervise high-quality, effective hockey programming
  • Work alongside Burnaby Parks, Recreation, and Culture to build complementary community programs
  • Advocate for improved facilities dedicated to the game of amateur hockey
  • Recognize and support individuals and organizations that contribute to youth hockey success

Whether your daughter is new to hockey or dreaming of playing at a competitive level, the Burnaby Female Ice Hockey Association is here to support her journey—and we’d love to have your family be a part of ours.
